Furnace Records presents
Black is the New Black: The Power & Privilege Industrial Culture Compilation

This release is produced to support The Radical Monarchs. Please continue to support, because the issues they are addressing are not going away any time soon.

Thank you for being there for us, so we can be there for them, and you can get dope sonic art. [win+win+win!]
Peaceness and Sledgehammers,
Darryl Hell - Furnace Records

[about the album]
From the mind that brought you the industrial compilations Hellscape 1 & 2 in the mid-1990s, industrial culture veteran Darryl Hell is back with his first compilation since the relaunch of Furnace Records in 2013, and the Hellscape series. This benefit compilation represents the overall essence of industrial culture that Hell has been propagating since the mid-1980s. In true Furnace style, it brings together a global roster of well-known and lesser-known artists, all bringing a united force of the varied elements of industrial music culture. In a time when the definitions of life and culture are being questioned and altered, it is important that an unambiguous socially-focused artistic scream against systemic oppression come from the industrial subculture.

The tracks are arranged by flow, not by notoriety. It takes you on a journey of industrial sounds and rhythms.

All proceeds will be donated to the Radical Monarchs, founded in Oakland, CA. They are an amazing social development organization for young girls of color. The program teaches its participants how to be empowered females in their public and private lives.

Mobilization.com is proud to have sponsored a 4x matching fund for the first $1,000 raised during this benefit release digital album between May 19th and June 19, 2021. We are thrilled to tell you that we met our goal and the Radical Monarchs will get $4,000, plus any other funds generated from this release!!! SPECIAL THANKS to Ethan @ Mobilization for your support and for making this release a larger success than we had planned. All of the artists also deserve ultimate respect for donating their sonic art for this worthy cause...especially given the many worthy causes. Without them, it would have been nothing more than a pledge drive.

Please give as much as you can. It is going directly to a really amazing cause that has tangible results that can be seen in the lives of everyone who has engaged in their program.

(Project rewind)
Alizeh Winter is the person that originally mentioned in a post that someone from the industrial world should speak up on behalf of resistance to bigotry against Black people, especially in the face of the Whitelash we were and are living through. Some people [unfairly] gave her static for not having enough POCs involved and tagged some POCs including me [Darryl Hell]. When I approached her about this concept, she originally wanted me to run with it. I refused because she prompted it, and I felt should be supported in the effort instead of being removed and replaced. Furnace Records proudly provided the infrastructure for this to happen.

Special shout out to Anatoly Grinberg who wrestled the various tracks into cohesive energy. It is wonderful that someone in Russia can have a very positive impact on a project founded in the U.S. He stepped up immediately to donate his services for the project. Knowing the difficulties in mastering multi-band compilations, I was more than humbled and elated by the offer. dh
